Life drawing for beginners

Life Drawing is so good for the brain – working out the left-right hemisphere connections and activating new neural pathways. It has been proven by the Mayo Clinic to be one of the best ways to maintain cognitive health as we age. Let’s do it!

Here’s a session for those who would like to draw…But…! Well, let’s look at the mental obstacles that get in the way and move them on! Some of you have never drawn from life before, and others have done a bit, but feel rusty, and that other people are ‘so much better than you’. There is always someone better than us, but why should that stop us? Maybe it can inspire us instead! Even the ‘best’ were humble beginners once upon a time.

This session takes you through different approaches to capturing the figure, because we all see and learn differently. It will give you some tools to draw with more confidence and get you started on your life drawing adventure.

For those who’ve done some drawing in the past, it will help get rid of the rust and mobilise you to get back into your drawing.

When is it?

Saturday 1 July, 1pm-3.30pm

The session goes for 2.5 hours, including instruction, approximately two hours of drawing from life, a tea break and lots of individual and group support.

How much does it Cost?

$30 (There are a couple of payment methods and I’ll confirm with you when you book)

When you complete the enrolment form below, I’ll send you a map and respond to any questions you may have. Some GPSs and iPhones have a map error, so I want to make sure you know how to find us. Please note that Arana Hills is a north-west Brisbane suburb, near Mitchelton, Ferny Hills, and Everton Hills, about 13km from the city centre.

What should I bring?

Easels and drawing boards are provided. I offer A2 sized cartridge paper at cost – 25cents/sheet (not acid free). Apart from that, please bring your own paper and drawing materials. Here’s a suggested list (but don’t feel you have to rush out and buy a lot of materials…we’ll work with what you have).
